Laid Back Boaters
Shasta Lake - 2002
The Bronson's set up this little get together the weekend after the 2nd Annual Tower Park Run so I was a bit unsure about another road trip especially with it being on Labor Day weekend. I've usually just stayed home on the big weekends just because of the traffic jambs that occur. To my surprise, we didn't hit any traffic at all on the way up nor on the way back, it was great....4 hours to get there and 3:50 to get home and that was with my cruise control set at 58 mph.
I basically decided 3 days prior to leaving that we were going, besides wanting to meet new friends face to face, I wanted to put a boat of my own on Shasta since I had never done so. What a lake! It's huge!
If you could take the pointed end of a pin and put it on this map, that's about how big your boat would be.
Antler's Campground is where we called home for the 3 days and it's located above the Sugarloaf area in the upper left portion of the map.
Our own version of tent city.
We cruised for hours down to the Pit River area and never really saw an end to it. We found some pretty choppy water but also found some very smooth water especially in this little cove where wakeboarding and skiing were not allowed.
Here's a couple of pictures from the cove
